Manufacturing involves the study of various processes done in a mechanical industry. It talks about the study of the materials used like Iron carbide; Steel, High Speed Steel, Cast Iron, High Carbon Steel, etc. It can also be their physical and chemical properties like casting, forming, joining and machining processes, machine tools (Lathe, Shaper, Turning machine tool, etc.) or Inspection, Metrology (to check if the product is within the desired limits of dimension) and Computer Integrated Machining (CIM).

While ‘Production’ focuses on the requirements to optimize the quantity of the finished goods in a factory. In other words, more products in a lesser time, using lesser spaces, and having enough raw materials required (Inventory Management). It is about using each machine in the most productive way (Production Planning and Control), transportation, and customer satisfaction (Operations Research).
